A 1/8 scale semi kit of the IB1 D-Class, the workhorse inshore lifeboat operated by the RNLI and many independent lifeboat stations.

Designed with a focus on capturing the character and detail of the real D-Class, while allowing the modeller to develop the boat into a functional RC model.

The 1/8 scale version has been designed with functionality in mind, including provision for the modeller to create a working outboard motor.

• Non-functional outboard motor, designed with the potential to be converted to functional RC use.

RC functionality

The 1/8 scale kit is being developed with RC use in mind.

To accommodate electronics and the additional requirements of a functional model, some compromises have been made between absolute scale accuracy and practical functionality. For example, the interior arrangement uses a solid deck with a removable access panel rather than reproducing the full-scale floorboard arrangement exactly.

These changes are intended to provide practical space and access for electronics while retaining the overall appearance and character of the D-Class.

This is a semi kit, rather than a complete ready-to-build or ready-to-run model.

The builder will need to source or make a number of additional components and materials. These may include, but are not limited to:

• Motor and RC electronics
• Drive components and associated hardware
• Rope and cordage
• Paints and finishing materials
• Bow dodger fabric
• Decals
• Drain tubes
• Other small hardware and consumables

The kit is supplied as printed components and is intended for the modeller to complete, finish and assemble.

The functional outboard drive system is still under development, and details of any optional upgrade pack will be confirmed at a later date.
